ANNUAL GOODWILL TOUR TO JAMAICA

The Milwaukee Cricket Club, Inc. (MCC) embarked on its first annual goodwill tour to Jamaica on April 3, 1996. The major purpose of the tour was to provide goodwill to the children of Jamaica and at the same time, have fun playing some of the local cricket teams.

The club members stayed in Ocho Rios, St. Ann and commuted to the different parts of the Island for the cricket games. On arriving in Jamaica, the headline of the South Coast Reporter reads:

"STRONG OVERSEAS CRICKET TEAM TO PLAY MILE GULLY."

Immediately, we were under pressure before the first ball was bowled. The MCC was no match for the local teams in the games played throughout the years. The Island boys’ performances were remarkably outstanding. Teams played were Mile Gully Cricket Club, Shaw Park Hotel, Kaiser Discovery Bay and Russeas High School.

The following is a summary of goodwill projects accomplished over the years:

1996:

  • Adoption of the Mile Gully All-Age School
  • Provided books, pens and pencils for every child in the school
  • Provided teaching supplies to the school
  • 1997:

  • Provided the school’s first computer and printer
  • Provided a thickness planer (woodworking machine)
  • A Scholarship for $3,500US for a student to attend Christina Comprehensive High School in Manchester, Jamaica
  • 1998:

  • Provided twenty-four (24) computers for the establishment of a computer lab
  • 1999:

  • Our goal is to upgrade the existing woodwork shop by providing woodwork machines, hand and power tools
